Special Needs, Oldies, and Sponsorships (SOS) Cats

A few of our cats are a little more challenging than others when it comes to finding the perfect home for them. One may be a senior citizen who prefers to live in a quiet environment with no children or other pets; another may require surgery and long-term medical care (and costs); one may have behavioral issues; another may be disabled; and yet another may have tested positive for FIV or FeLV.

Whatever their special needs, all our SOS cats need someone who will spend the extra time to show them love and respect, and let them know that they are just as lovable as those cats who are adopted right away.

You'll find such cats on the Available Cats pages; those who are waiting to be matched up with the right person who will spend the time and money necessary to give them the happiest and healthiest life possible for as long as they live. These cats need Forever Families who will look beyond their issues, see the remarkable kitten inside, and give them the home they deserve.

These days, there is no reason to euthanize a cat just because of it's advanced age or special needs. Most cats can live very well with the help of their caregivers working together with their veterinarians to modify their lifestyle, environment, diet and medication.

We at Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue made a lifetime commitment to care for SOS cats. They are living in Rescue and in long-term foster homes, and we pay for their food and vet care out of our pockets. If now is not the right time to bring a cat into your home, please consider sponsoring the cat of your choice.

Cats with special needs give people special rewards!

Seniors for Seniors

A new program matching senior citizens age 60+ with senior cats to provide companionship for each other. Older cats benefit from the gentle and stress-free environment that a home with seniors can provide. Older adults benefit from having a companion around to ease loneliness, someone nonjudgmental who is always there with affection and companionship. Disabled persons are eligible for this new program regardless of age.

Are you an administrator of a convalescent, retirement, assisted living center, or Alzheimer's home who recognizes the therapeutic value of Cats-in-Residence? More and more group homes adopt a cat who will wander from room to room for petting and napping. Cats bring a sense of family and comfort. They also help ease ongoing loneliness that contributes to depression and related illness. It's true that stroking a cat's fur can lower blood pressure. And as a bonus, cats help seniors make friends with other seniors because their sparkling personalities and silly antics are a great topic of conversation!

Our cats are fully vetted and tested. They are litter box trained and love to be petted. Contact the foster parent directly regarding a reduced adoption fee. Transportation may be available for a small donation of $35. If you or someone you know is interested, please complete the adoption application and a case manager will call and talk with you.

Whether adopting a senior cat as a companion for yourself or a group home, you will need to have a plan for your cat should your independent lifestyle change. If you must give up your cat for any reason, PPCR will always take the cat back. We require that you have a codicil in your will with a dollar amount going to the care of the cat. That cat and $$ amount can come back to us, or to a family member responsible for carrying out your wishes.
