thank you, savannah rescue, for sponsoring her emergency vet care
Update as of 10/17/09. Spotted Girl has a new name. We call her
Scarlett. It's a much more sophisticated name, don't you think? Although
she's still scary thin, she's now eating on her own and has bowel
control. Oh, the things we find exciting when we rescue cats. Scarlett
has gained over a pound and a half. She went from 3lbs 5 oz to just over
5 lbs in just two weeks. Check out her pretty new pictures! Look at
those vivid green eyes. Even her coat is looking better although there
are still many bald spots. She's going to be one lovely girl.

Someone is going to have to come up with a much better name for this
sweet girl. This is aother of those cats that made us glad we had
Savannah Rescue along to help with identification. She was listed as a "marbled" cat and she was so sick she didn't move and we didn't want to
take her out of her cage. Brigitte looked at her face and said "I see
Savannah. She's a Savannah". We discussed the whole "marbled isn't
standard but ... " situation and agreed to ID her as a Savannah. You
can imagine our surprise when she came out of the shelter and we finally
got a good look at her. She's a spotty girl all right! A Savannah
through and through.
Unfortunately, of all of the cats in this group this girl is in the most
danger. Although her body frame is the size of an adult domestic cat,
she weighs barely three pounds. There is still some doubt about her
ability to fully recover from her ordeal. She is so thin she can hardly
hold herself up and she has stopped eating on her own. The parasites
have nearly destroyed her insides and she currently has no bowel
control. She has several different nasty parasites that have almost
killed her. She is on a medication cocktail and probiotics along with
intense supportive care to save her life. She is currently with an
expert foster home who is giving her round the clock care and syringe
feeding her to keep her organ functions up while we try to fix her
insides. Despite her weakened condition she's a pistol to give meds.
It's like she can completely twist out of her skin. She receives
subcutaneous fluids daily. We assume she will need many return vet
visits as we begin to stabilize her.
Spotted Girl's initial vet care has been sponsored by a generous
donation from Savannah Rescue. Please watch this site regularly for
updates. We may find ourselves needing to come back with our hat in hand
asking for more financial support for this sweet kitty. We are committed
to saving her life.
