LITTLE BIT
2-3 yo Silver Smoke Persian

next step - biopsy needed
PLEASE HELP LITTLE BIT

Sweet Little Bit is Cat #1 of the 25 Persians in Crisis. When we posted this tiny girl's picture we had a zillion inquiries about her. She is so cute she hardly even looks real. Just look at that face and those beautiful eyes. Unfortunately when people found out she's had diarrhea no one really wanted to take her. Not that we blame you, it's not an easy thing to adopt a special needs cat. Thankfully, we have a great group of foster moms, and one of them wanted to take this challenging girl on.

When we got Little Bit she weighed only 3lbs 3 oz. Her foster mom followed our worming and diarrhea protocol, and watched over Lil Bit's diet carefully. Now she weighs between 4lbs 4 oz, and 4lbs 7 oz on any given day. She's had an extensive fecal study done by UC Davis VMTH, and all of her tests came back negative for internal parasites. Repeat: This cat has NO nasty bugs! They test for everything, even the most rare parasites, and she didn't have any of them.

So, it looks like Little Bit is going to be ready to go home in just a little bit. We don't know if she's going to be special needs and always have some problems with irritable bowel syndrome, or she may need a special diet. Then again, her foster mom is a whiz at this kind of thing, and rumor has it there have been some good signs that Little Bit might be perfectly healthy very soon. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

We are hoping to find a sponsor for Lil' Bit during her remaining time in Rescue. We'd like to have sonogram done on her tummy just to make sure all is well. We can get that done for $200, maybe even less! For any of you who've had to get a sonogram on a cat, you'll know that this is a great deal. And we get it done by an excellent vet with lots of Persian experience. Please let us know if you'd like to make a contribution of any size to help us get an extra bit of care for this tiny bit of a kitty. You can also feel free to adopt Little Bit at any time and have her diagnostics and treatment done by your own vet. Just please don't contact us and say "I'd love to adopt this cat just as soon as she's perfect." When she's perfect we'll post an update, and then we'll have people beating down our doors for her again.

update: Little Bit has had her sonogram AND THE NEXT STEP IS A BIOPSY WITH AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $800

Purebreds Plus would like to give a big THANK YOU to the kitty angels that have sponsored Little Bit's vet care so far:

  • Stephanie and hubby
  • Sonbol – in loving memory of their darling Mooshi who is missed very, very much. Sonbol has also adopted a kitty she named Poppy from Little Bit's group of cats. She is cat #12 on the 25 cats in crisis page. We believe that Poppy is Little Bit's mother!
  • Veronica
  • Marla – in loving memory of Penny, her sweet and gorgeous Silver Patch Tabby. We do mean gorgeous!
  • Diana
  • Cris
  • Results of tests so far:
Her kidneys looked healthy according to the sonogram and her intestines showed a slight inflammation but noting else.

According to our vet, the next step is to do a biopsy to determine if Little Bit's problems are from food allergies or IBD. The biopsy will determine the best course of treatment and if medications will be needed.

Little Bit is a fragile cat, so we don't want to go pumping her with medications if it is not necessary. The biopsy alone will cost around $800.

In the mean time we have had some great people contact us with information on food allergies and IBD. We will be working on trying different foods and holistic approaches for possible food allergies while we try to raise the money for her biopsy. We have also had much interest in people who are possibly interested in adopting her once a diagnosis is made.

So far we have received $400 towards Little Bit's biopsy. We are hoping some more big-hearted people will step forward and help. This little girl deserves a chance at a home of her own.

Call (707) 301-RESQ to sponsor her care or contact Kimber at (530) 902-2710 or kcollins.ppcr@gmail.com if you have questions, or send an Adoption Application.
