Doug is a beautiful cat who's owner cannot keep him due to allergies and a brand new baby with severe health issues. He is currently living in a boarding kennel in the Sacramento area and we are so hoping that someone will adopt him or offer him a foster home so he can spend more time as a family member. His mom had this to say about him:
"Doug is very sweet and docile and very adaptable to other animals. He loves the 2 dogs he lives with and also likes other dogs he has gotten to know (once he has gotten to know them) over the years. Doug also really loves other cats. Doug is shy and unsure of people at first, but once he warms up is a real lover. He loves to sit with me (or other friends) an be petted or brushed, or just to cuddle. He really is a wonderful boy. He really is the sweetest cat- he has never even come close to scratching any person or animal and i don't even think he knows what biting is. Even when the dogs corner him in play, the most he has ever done is to playfully lift a paw and nothing else. I can't stress how sweet he is. He loves to play with humans and other animals alike."
Doug sounds like a great cat. If you are looking for a cat with a "dog like personality" this is your boy! He will be there to great you at the door and hang out with you while you're home. Since he's used to being an only cat, he would be fine in a situation where there are no other pets, but it sounds as if he'd also do well with other cats.
It appears that Doug has had a history of urinary tract crystals. This
is helped by a better diet which Doug's foster dad has been working on.
In Doug's past he also had the occasional oops with the litter box. This
is not uncommon when a cat has a bladder infection or is getting blocked
from the crystals. Again, foster dad is on his game. He's worked with
Doug to find out what his favorite litter is, and even worked out
exactly the right depth for Doug's digging preference. We believe that
in a quiet, patient environment where Doug is getting the best possible
diet, he will continue to be a healthy well behaved cat.
Note from Doug's foster dad: "I think People Magazine or TMZ might take these pictures of Doug
lounging in his [lack of] nightware, facing off with the paparazzi, and
showing off his new buff physique. I sent you 9 pictures, not quite enough
to make one picture per month, but I heard he's giving Mario Lopez'
calendar a run. But this will give you some choices for which poses you
publish. I haven't had a chance to run them past Tyra Banks yet, but my
favorites are heyyou and facial. BTW, I don't leave newspaper lying
all around the house. I found he likes to roll and plop on it so rather
than let him get full of ink I put the glossy ads out for him. Those are
his endorsement photos."
